ECG signal and generally biomedical signals change their statistical properties over time. Researchers can use multiresolution techniques for analyzing non-stationary signals. Traditional analysis techniques like fourier transform and short time fourier Transform are confined to stationary signals only. Multiresolution techniques like Wavelet transform is a powerful instrument in catching zerodimensional singularities. While Ridgelets are a powerful instrument in catching and representing monodimensional singularities, curvelets are used to represent multidimensional singularity. This paper reviews drawbacks of traditional analysis techniques like fourier transform and advantages of using multiresolution techniques. Also in this paper we have tried to avoid intensive mathematics. More stress is laid to understand the concepts for the beginners. Keywords— ECG, Fourier Transform, Wavelet Transform, Ridglets, curvelets, Radon transform.
